Help Break The Cycle Of Homelessness

This June, leaders in business, community and government will sleep without shelter on one of the longest nights of the year to help change the lives of Australians experiencing homelessness. One of the CEO’s taking a stand to help break the cycle of homelessness and poverty in Australia is our very own CEO Bryn Jones.

Bryn is a very active supporter of many different community-based charities and projects, and the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is no exception. Bryn has worked with the homeless on the Gold Coast for many years and despite being the CEO of a large multi-company group such as ACBF and having a growing young family, he always finds a way to prioritise helping the community as well:

“No one sets out to be homeless. Each and everyone has their own story, their own reason for being in their current state. Each one, Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Grand Parents, Uncles, Cousins from all walks of life.

Homelessness is a symptom of something greater, removing the judgement and replacing it with empathy, an ear and a outstretched hand is just a small step in the right direction.

Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This year I’m taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Australians in need. For one night, I’ll be sleeping outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness.

To help break the devastating cycle of homelessness, I need your support. Will you help me to help me reach my target? Donating 50 dollars can make a huge difference to people who need it most.”

Please get behind Bryn and sponsor him as he joins the sleep out on June 21st. His link for sponsorship is here:

Waitangi Day Festival

What a great Saturday family day out at the Waitangi Day Festival at Southport on the Gold Coast. We enjoyed a fabulous morning Powhiri, performances, stalls and great food (Browns island food) by the water. Here’s just a few snaps from the day! It was so lovely to meet all the people we did. Thank you for being apart of the NZ Community Funeral Plans stall.

Our Funeral Plans

Our plan is designed to provide, and can only provide funeral expenses to meet the whole or part of the costs incidental to a named person’s burial or cremation.  The plan has been designed to be affordable with fortnightly premiums being paid by you to spare your loved ones from the financial strain which is associated with funerals.

Our Funeral Plans Cover Suicide

It is a sad fact of life, that some people find that they cannot cope with their own personal and family-related worries. With the added everyday pressures of modern times, they often take their own lives. We as a company recognise this tragic fact and, whereas many other Insurance companies will not make payouts in suicide cases, we will cover nominees for such an eventuality, 12 months after the start of the plan. If the suicide was within 12 months, whilst we wouldn’t make a payout, we would, however refund the costs of the payments which had been made during this first 12 months.

Our Funeral Plans Cover It All!

We cover all funeral-related expenses; these include: Funeral Director’s accounts as well as Headstones and plaques, clothing for the family, travelling and accommodation costs, wake costs and repatriation costs.  A recent example was of a customer who was a biker and who specifically wanted a motorbike-drawn hearse for his send-off.  Sometimes the benefit will not cover the FULL lost of the funeral. in the event that the person who has passed has previously stipulated a particularly lavish send-off. The benefits can also be used to repatriate the body of a customer who has died in another state, and it is his family’s wishes that he is buried at home.

Soaring funeral prices

The cost of funerals in Australia are soaring, and will continue to do so in line with inflation.  For example, the average* prices vary from state to state.  In Queensland, the average price of a cremation is $4,750 and a burial is $6,600.  In NSW, a cremation can cost around $7,000, with a burial around $7,600.  In the Northern Territories, Cremation was between $3,500 and $7,500 with a burial being as high as $12,000.  Finally, we found costs in Western Australia to be around $8,000. These soaring prices make it more important than ever for you to be on top of your personal finances.  The more benefit that you are covered for, the less that your family have to find, especially at a time when they are grieving for you.

* Dependent upon local Council charges, coffin size etc.  Prices include a service.
